We believe that truly sustainable communities come from more than solar panels and wind turbines but through the development of walkable, attractive and safe places. This is our approach taken on previous pages. However we are continuously keeping up to date on new (and old) technologies that can be used to mitigate our impact on the planet. For instance we are currently undertaking research on Passive Solar Housing layouts and laying down guidance for such developments in order that they can integrate into existing urban forms. We are also very much involved with retrofitting older buildings in terms of insulation and technologies to cope with increasing energy demands. Our approach is very much based on an understanding of how an old building functions in terms of breathability and materiality and it is often the incorrect course of action to use plastic based insulation on such structures. We can also assist in mitigating the impact of 'sustainable technologies' on listed buildings and Conservation Areas and can provide creative solutions to the integration of these or on the likelihood of Listed Building or Planning Consent being granted.
